Fighting all odds: Differently-abled champion becomes yoga instructor

Becoming an inspiration to millions of youth with the disability, this differently-abled champion has mastered the art of Yoga to become a yoga instructor in Odisha. 19-year-old Ramachandra Rajak is deaf and dumb since childhood. He belongs to Goudasahi of Sadar Mahakuma Champua block in Keonjhar district. Apart from Yoga, he is a painter by profession.

At a very early age, Ramachandra lost his father. After his father’s demise, his mother had to take the responsibility for the whole family. He was just 5-year-old then and could not shoulder the responsibility of the family of four.

Although he was enrolled in a school but failure in class 10th examinations could not help much to his academics. After failing to clear the matriculation examinations, Ramachandra quit his studies and started earning his living for the last few months by painting walls.

However, nothing could break his motivation of becoming successful in life. He went ahead and took yoga classes from a local instructor. After gaining inspiration from a local ex-Army man Prakash Pradhan, Ramachandra he went to Patanjali yoga camp in Rishikesh for 15 days.

“After practising yoga, I started speaking slightly,” said Ramachandra.

Once his training at the yoga centre finished he returned back to his native place and started working as a yoga instructor at Champua and Telkoi.

Now Ramchandra, is a complete profession yoga instructor and gives classes to those who comes to him to learn the art of yoga. He now wakes up at 4 am and walks for three kilometres. Then he heads towards the Nehru Stadium where he teaches yoga for three hours every day. In the evening also, he practises yoga for two hours.
