Finance Bill 2026 Income-tax Act 2025: The Finance Bill 2026 has suggested a small but important change in tax rules. This change is linked to the Income-tax Act 2025. The government says this update will close a gap that could have caused confusion and fights over tax in the future. The Income-tax Department has shared questions and answers to explain this change in an easy way.

Old Tax Rule

Under the old rule in the Income-tax Act 2025, there was a section that talked about the earlier Income-tax Act 1961. If a person got a tax deduction or did not add some income under the old 1961 law, and later broke the rules of that law, then that money would be treated as income in the year the rule was broken. This rule only worked when someone clearly violated conditions written in the old law.

New Change

The Finance Bill 2026 wants to make this rule wider. Even if there is no rule breaking now, the amount can still be treated as income. If any money was wrongly allowed as a deduction or not added to income under the old Income-tax Act 1961, then it will be counted as income under the new Income-tax Act 2025. This applies even when the issue happened for reasons other than breaking conditions.

The Income-tax Department explained the reason clearly. It said, “To ensure that such amounts are deemed to be income of the person under the Income-tax Act, 2025, the aforesaid change is proposed,” the Income-tax Department says.

Affect on Taxpayers

Some cases were left out where income should have been added back but was not. This could have led to arguments between taxpayers and tax officers. With this new rule, the law becomes clear. Any amount that should have been added under the old law will now be treated as income under the new law. This helps avoid confusion and reduces the chance of tax disputes later.
