Game Of Thrones Movie: The world of Game of Thrones has mostly lived on TV for years. That is now changing in a big way. Warner Bros. Discovery has officially confirmed that Aegon’s Conquest will be made as a theatrical movie. This will be the first feature film in the Game of Thrones universe, and it will take viewers back about 300 years before the original series began. The story will focus on the famous Targaryen invasion that changed Westeros forever. Warner Bros. Discovery placed the project in its “beyond 2027” movie slate in a shareholder letter released on August 6, 2026.

The confirmation matters because this is the first time the franchise is heading to the big screen in feature film form. Until now, the Game of Thrones world has mainly grown through television shows like House of the Dragon and A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. The movie was first introduced earlier in 2026 at CinemaCon, and the latest update from Warner Bros. Discovery makes it clear that the project is still moving ahead.

What wil the Film Tell?

Aegon’s Conquest

Aegon’s Conquest is based on one of the most important stories in George R.R. Martin’s Targaryen history, which was written about in Fire & Blood. The film will follow Aegon Targaryen, later known as Aegon the Conqueror, as he works to unite Westeros under one ruler. He will not be alone in that journey. His sister-wives, Visenya and Rhaenys, are also part of the story, along with their dragons Balerion the Black Dread, Vhagar and Meraxes.

The conquest changed Westeros in a major way. Before Aegon’s rise, the land was split into separate kingdoms. After his victories, most of them came under Targaryen rule, and the Iron Throne was forged from the swords of defeated enemies.

What we know so far

The screenplay is being written by Beau Willimon, who is known for House of Cards and Andor. Warner Bros. Discovery has not yet revealed the director, cast or production schedule. It has also not announced a release date, only that the movie sits in the studio’s plans for “beyond 2027.”

The story will not be a perfect victory tale either. Dorne resisted Aegon’s campaign and stayed independent for almost two more centuries before later joining the realm through politics and marriage during King Daeron II Targaryen’s reign. That detail makes the conquest story even more interesting, because Aegon’s huge dragon-backed army still did not fully control all of Westeros.
