December 14-15 00:05 IST Excellent

For the unknown, the Geminids are active every year in December and it marks the phenomenon when the Earth passes through a huge trail of dusty debris which are shed by the rocky object called 3200 Phaethon.

The 3200 Phaethon asteroid’s orbit brings it closer to the Sun and while it was discovered 35 years ago, Phaethon is the biggest reason why we see the Geminid meteor showers from Earth every December.

The Geminid meteor shower is said to be a very reliable and can be clearly seen in a dark sky at the peak time of night (which is at around 2 am) from all parts of the planet. With each passing year, the proliferation of yellowish streaks of light seen in the night-time sky has reportedly grown more intense.
