Global Recycling Day 2023: Date, History, Importance

Global Recycling Day, observed annually on March 18, is a recycling initiative that encourages us to reconsider our waste. There are numerous recycling methods that enable the multiple reuse of certain materials. Recycling is beneficial for us and the environment because it reduces our energy consumption, improves the quality of the water and air we consume, and combats global warming.

It also reduces the use of new basic materials in the production of new goods, saving both money and natural resources. Common recyclable commonplace items include newspapers, plastic water bottles, soda cans, cereal boxes, and milk cartons. If we make an effort to recycle items that we would otherwise discard, we can have a greater impact on the environment and on our own lives.

HISTORY OF GLOBAL RECYCLING DAY

Since Global Recycling Day became a U.N.-recognized day in 2018, countless millions of individuals and organizations have collaborated to increase recycling awareness through Global Recycling Day initiatives. It is nearly impossible to avoid the hundreds, if not thousands, of media reports on global warming, the negative effects of our bad behaviors on the planet, and our wallets.
According to annual reports, the earth may not survive the next decade if we continue to pollute. Natural resources are endangered as pollution and climate change converge. The last decade has seen the most extreme temperatures in recorded history, causing both natural and economic devastation.

We must make significant changes in order to save our planet and our livelihoods. Exactly for this reason, Global Recycling Day was established in 2018. The holiday highlights the significance of recycling and conservation by educating the global community on the condition of our vital resources. The Global Recycling Foundation defines the objectives of Global Recycling Day in detail.
As a global team, the foundation communicates directly with world leaders to combat the issue. Recycling has prevented approximately 700 million kilograms of CO2 emissions this year. This is projected to reach one billion tons by 2030. Numerous other individuals, organizations, and governments endorse directly the global green agenda, which facilitates increased recycling rates.

With recycling included in the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations, we have the ability to implement long-lasting solutions. The Global Recycling Foundation is pleased to announce #RecyclingHeroes as the theme for Global Recycling Day 2021. The theme and hashtag movement will increase the visibility of environmentally conscientious people, places, and groups, allowing them to exert a greater influence on greener future initiatives.
