Comedian Kapil Sharma turns 40 this year on April 2. The stand-up comedian, who has done Comedy Nights With Kapil and in The Kapil Sharma Show, is known for his amusing punchlines, incredible comic timing and sense of humour.
Kapil has recently announced the new season of his show The Kapil Sharma Show will is slated to premeire in May, 2021.
On the occasion of Kapil Sharma’s birthday, here are some lesser-known facts about the Indian comedian:
- Kapil Sharma first auditioned for The Great Indian Laughter Challenge in Amritsar, where he faced rejection. Then he auditioned again in Delhi and got selected. He later went on to win the show.
- When Kapil first came to Mumbai, he dreamed of becoming a singer. He participated as a wild card in singing reality show Star Ya Rockstar and won the second prize. Despite this, he couldn’t peruse it further and started doing comedy.
- His mother Janak Rani is a homemaker. In the year 1997, his father was diagnosed with Cancer and passed in the year 2004 at AIMS in Delhi. It was too early for Kapil and he had to take all the responsibility.
- Before making it big in the comedy industry, Kapil worked at many odd jobs such as selling newspapers, working at clothing store, general store and at a PCO.
- After he rose to fame by winning The Great Indian Laughter Challenge, he went on to win comedy reality show Comedy Circus for six consecutive seasons.
- Kapil spent all his prize money from winning the laughter challenge on his sister’s marriage.
- He had previously worked in the Punjabi show Hasde Hasande Ravo in 2006 on MH One channel.
- Kapil made his Bollywood debut as the male lead for the movie Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon in 2015.
- Kapil married Ginni Chatrath in Jalandhar on 12 December 2018. He was also ranked 18th on the 2017 Forbes India Celebrity 100 list.
- There is a wax statue of him at the Madame Tussauds Wax Museum.
