Haridwar: Mahamandaleshwar Kapil Dev of Nirvani Akhara succumbs to COVID-19 after attending Maha Kumbh

Mahamandaleshwar Kapil Dev of Nirvani Akhara from Madhya Pradesh has died of corona(COVID-19) at Kumbh Mela in Haridwar. Mahamandaleshwar was reportedly admitted to Kailash Hospital in Dehradun recently after he became corona positive.

He died on April 13, as reported by Aaj Tak. This is being claimed as the first death of a saint during the Mahakumbh Mela.

The impact of gross violation of corona guidelines in Haridwar is now clearly visible. In the last 72 hours alone, more than 1,500 positive cases have been reported only from the Mela area of Haridwar and many people have lost their lives. The number of corona patients is expected to increase further as a large number of corona reports are yet to come.

Uttarakhand Government will not reduce the duration of Kumbh Mela

The Uttarakhand government has refused to reduce the duration of Haridwar Kumbh Mela amid the growing infection of COVID-19.

A statement issued by the government said that they are not planning on reducing the Mela period, nor has the state government sent any such proposal to the Centre, Kumbh will end on its deadline of April 30.

Corona cases in Haridwar are increasing rapidly as we speak. Corona rules and regulations were also nowhere to be seen during the third Shahi Snan. Most people appeared without masks, while practically no one in Haridwar is following social distancing rules.
