Haryana Board exams: 7 test centers cancelled as cheating goes on

Board of School Education Haryana (BSEH) on Monday cancelled as many as seven exam centers after mass copying during the Class 10 Hindi examination surfaced. Seven supervisors were also relieved from their duties for negligence.

Despite efforts put in by the state board and the police, copying during the board exams have continued. During the Monday exam, around 346 students were caught cheating across Haryana. A flying squad led by the board chairmen Jagbir Singh caught seven cases of cheating during random inspection in Rohtak.

Various incidents of use of unfair means were reported across many exam centres in Rohtak.

As there was shortage of police force in rural areas, these were affected the most. Outsiders threw cheating slips at some of the examination centres even in presence of police.

Jaibhagwan, chief superintendent, Government School, Mahim, said there are three centres in the school. But there are only five cops on duty. ‘We asked for more force from the SP. But the police came only once and then left,’ he said.

Mahim deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Sajjan Kumar said there is acute shortage of police personnel. “We cannot send more force. School staff and panchayats must work to curb cheating. There were large number of outsiders at many centres”, Kumar was quoted as saying by DBPost.

The literacy rate of Haryana is 67.91 percent, though, higher than the National average which is 64.80 doesn’t fail to point out the dipping quality of education and the escalating need for it to develop.
