Holi 2019: Before & after Holi tips to protect your skin from harmful colours

It is the time of the year to welcome the season spring and a festival that is close to everyone’s heart – Holi. It is a festival of unrestrained joy, which comes with the promise of warmer days and to new beginnings. As flowers bloom during the spring season and nature is in full colour, people to immerse themselves in colour during the festival of Holi.

During Holi, many people use colours on each other and some of them tend to cause irritation and allergies.

Here we are going to tell you a few tips on how to take care of your skin and hair during Holi.

Before Holi Skincare Tips: 

Tip 1: Use Body Lotion or Coconut Oil
As you are likely to spend the day in the sun, it is important you protect your skin with an effective sunscreen. Just like your face, apply oil on your hair too. Go for a head massage a night before, this will help to create a barrier against the colours.

Tip 2: Cover Your Hair
The best way to protect your hair is to cover it completely with a scarf or bandana. Apart from applying oil as mentioned above, don’t take any chances with hair. To protect your hair by covering it is the best solution in Holi.

Tip 3: Wear Sunglasses
To protect your eyes, wear a pair of sunglasses. The skin around your eyes is the thinnest and that’s why you must guard it against the colours.

Tip 4: Paint your nails
To protect your nails, apply two coats of base coat or any nail polish. The polish will help to act as a barrier and won’t discolour your nails.

Tip 5: Stay Hydrated
Holi is a festival which tends to dehydrate the skin to a large extent. Keep sipping water throughout the time when you are playing Holi.

Once you have enjoyed a playful session with your near and dear ones, it’s time to move to the most difficult part- removing the colours.

After Holi Skincare Tips:

Tip 1: DO NOT opt for salon procedures
It is advised not to opt for facial, scrubbing or more such salon procedures. It will cause irritation and colours, instead of coming off, will settle deeper into your skin.

Tip 2: Nourish Your Hair with Hair Mask 
To give your hair its moisture back, you can go for a nice hair mask. Mix two tablespoons of olive oil with four tablespoons of honey and a few drops of lemon juice. Leave this mask on your hair for 20-30 minutes and rinse it off with a mild shampoo.

Tip 3: Use Lemon To Get Rid of Stains
If there are stubborn colours which are just refusing to leave your skin, then you can use lemon on them. Rub lemon on your skin, where the colours are sturdy. Lemon is a natural bleaching agent and will remove stains.

Tip 4: Use Moisturizer after Bath

After you have taken a bath, make sure you have applied moisturizer all over the body for two reasons. Firstly it will help retain the moisture in your body which has been lost throughout the day and secondly, it will help you to remove colours easily.

Tip 5: Use Rose Water for Eyes
After washing color with water, put some rose water in your eye and take rest. This will relax them.
