Amid Covid-19 pandemic, the CISCE has informed that students all over India and abroad can now choose not to take the pending ICSE board exams or the ISC board exams and instead get evaluated or marked on the basis of internal assessment scores.

The ICSE and ISC board exams had been delayed in March because of the Covid-19 lockdown and was slated for July.

The Indian School Certificate Examination (ISCE) board has notified on Monday, June 15, 2020, the decision to the Bombay High Court while at a hearing of a petition filed by city resident Arvind Tiwari who was challenging the ICSE board exams scheduled to be conducted from July 2 across Maharashtra since the state has the highest number of confirmed coronavirus cases across the country.

The state has 226 ICSE board schools and a total of 23,347 students will appear for the ICSE board exams for class 10.

According to the petition filed by Arvind Tiwari stated that due to the high number of Covid-19 cases in the state, it will be best if ICSE board exam results were announced on the basis of gradation and assessment of past performance in internal exams in the ISCE schools.

The Maharashtra government has also said earlier that conducting exams in the current pandemic situation was not viable.

The bench, after listening the board’s decision, posted the matter for further hearing to be held on Wednesday.

The ICSE board said all affiliated schools in the country will be informed about this decision after which schools will have to contact the ICSE class 10 students and ISC class 12 students to make a note of their choices as to whether they wanted to take the board exams or if they wanted to be evaluated on the basis of internal assessment.

Students can send in the choices to the board till June 22.
