Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur will be going to declare the final results for the academic year 2019-20 after July 8, Director Prof V K Tewari said. Previously, the institute cancelled the end semester exam because of the COVID-19 pandemic outbreak.
Institute also set up a committee to evaluate academic performance along with decisions on grading scheme, supplementary examination and department change, the director said in a statement on Saturday.
Approximately 13,000 students enrolled in various undergraduate, post-graduate and doctoral programmes were evaluated on the basis of grades of mid-semester examinations, assignments, class tests, viva, etc, the statement said.
The online assessment was not resorted to as many students hail from remote parts of the country having poor internet connectivity, an institute spokesperson said.
Therefore, it was decided to hold an alternative evaluation method, which will be fair and scientific and accurate to use.
The spring 2020 (end) semester results needed to be announced in the month of July for the career prospects of students, the spokesperson said.
The new semester is likely to start in September depending on the situation in the wake of the COVID-19 however, whether that will be offline or online has not been decided yet.
