Bhabhua: Police arrested a peddler on late Thursday night and seized 120 bottles of foreign liquor from a house Chamanlal Talao, Kaimur district which falls under the Bhabhua Town police station.

Police said that the consignment was seized from the Neeraj Gond’s house which is in ward number 17 area on the basis of specific intelligence input. Reportedly, Neeraj escaped from the spot but a peddler named Santosh Gond was arrested. According to the police, the liquor bottles were smuggled from Uttar Pradesh.

Earlier, in October 2018, more than 400 police officers in Bihar were dismissed for violating the liquor ban imposed by the state government. The Economic Offence Unit of the Bihar Police had initiated a process to seize properties of the dismissed officers. State police chief K.S. Dwivedi had said that the government will take more such tough actions to ensure the ban is unaffected. More than 1 lakh persons have been arrested for violating the ban but only 141 have been sentenced so far, an Excise and Prohibition Department official said.
