India Ranks 4th Globally with 80 Ramsar Sites: New Delhi India is renowned for its remarkable natural landscapes, encompassing mountains, rivers, hills, valleys, and wetlands. These features not only satisfy the needs of human beings but also create ideal habitats for a multitude of endangered bird and animal species. India has recently achieved a significant milestone in its endeavors to preserve natural habitats and fauna. India has recently added five additional wetland regions to its list of Ramsar sites, bringing the total number to eighty. In 2022, eleven more wetlands were designated as Ramsar sites, increasing the total to 75. We should examine the number of Ramsar sites in each state.

Tamil Nadu is the state with the greatest quantity of Ramsar Sites, possessing a total of sixteen. Uttar Pradesh follows with ten, while Odisha and Punjab each have six.

For World Wetlands Day 2024, India has designated five wetland regions as Ramsar Sites. This celebration takes place on February 2. The recently designated wetland areas are centrally located in the states of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.
