Asia Cup 2023: Will Shreyas Iyer be the part of the Squad?

India Squad for Asia Cup 2023: Shreyas Iyer hasn’t played in any competitive cricket matches since the fourth Border-Gavaskar Test match against Australia in March.

He later had back surgery in London, which prevented him from participating in the IPL for the entire season. Shreyas Iyer was supposed to return for the Ireland T20Is, but the NCA staff determined he needed more time to recover.

According to a statement released by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) last month, Shreyas Iyer’s recovery is progressing. However, it is yet unknown if he will be permitted to participate in the continental competition.

India’s Asia Cup campaign begins on September 2 when it takes on Pakistan in Kandy.

The India team for the Asia Cup 2023 will probably be chosen on Monday, August 21.

Sourav Ganguly, a former captain of India, stated on Friday that Shreyas Iyer, a top-tier talent, should be India’s selection for the No. 4 batting position at the ICC World Cup 2023 and Asia Cup. However, Ganguly asserts that Tilak Varma might be offered an opportunity in the Asia Cup 2023 squad if Iyer is unable to play.

Former India head coach Ravi Shastri also voiced his respect for Tilak Varma, who gives India the left-handed batter component that it currently lacks. In his first T20I series against the West Indies, Tilak averaged 57.67 runs in five innings.

Tilak averages 56.18 points and the same number of fifty-sixes in 25 List-A games.

SuryaKumar Yadav is another candidate to replace Shreyas in the Team India roster for the Asia Cup. The World No. 1 T20 batter’s ability and talent cannot be disregarded despite his terrible ODI statistics.
