The Indian Premier League 2019 is almost here, beginning from March 23. The Indian cricket tournament is famous for its tall sixes and massive boundaries. The IPL showcases various overseas and local players from India which add to its glory.
The high scoring totals and massive biggies are the main sources of IPL’s honour. In each season, IPL awards the highest scorer of the tournament with an Orange cap.
Chris Gayle and David Warner are the only players who had won the Orange Cap for more than one season. Chris Gayle has won it consecutively in 2011 and 2012, both while playing for Royal Challengers Bangalore while Warner has won it in 2015 and 2017, both with SunRisers Hyderabad.
Indian skipper Virat Kohli holds the record of most runs scored in a single season, by scoring 973 runs in 16 matches in 2016. Australian batsman, Shaun Marsh was the first player to win the Orange Cap in 2008 while playing for Kings XI Punjab and had hit five half-centuries and one hundred to reach this milestone.
Last year, New Zealand and SunRisers Hyderabad skipper Kane Williamson was named as the highest run scorer and rewarded with the Orange cap as he scored 735 runs in 17. The 2018 Orange cap winner’s highest score was 84 runs and had a strike rate if 52.5 hitting eight half-centuries.

The 12th season of Indian Premier League will headstart from March 23 with the match between the defending champions, MS Dhoni’s Chennai Super Kings and the Indian skipper Virat Kohli’s Royal Challengers Bangalore. The bowler with the most number of wickets is also rewarded with an honour which is the Purple Cap. It will be interesting to see who will win the Orange Cap in IPL 2019.
