Vande Bharat sleeper coach: India is set to get its first Vande Bharat train sleeper coach maintenance facility by mid-2026.The project is being built in Jodhpur, Rajasthan, at the Bhagat Ki Kothi Railway Station.
A senior North Western Railway official, Amit Swamy, confirmed the development and said the facility will have a total budget of Rs 360 crore. Swamy who is the Senior Divisional Mechanical Engineer of the North Western Railway he said the depot will be one of the most advanced in the country once it is ready.

First Phase to Be Ready by June 2026
The new Vande Bharat depot is being built in two phases. The first phase, which includes a 600-meter track designed to handle 24 sleeper coaches of the Vande Bharat trains, is expected to be ready by June 2026. This part of the project will cost Rs 167 crore. The second phase will include a 178 meter track with a modern workshop and simulator facility. And it is planned for completion by June 2027 at a cost of Rs 195 crore.
The North Western Railway is developing this project in partnership with Kinet Railway Solution and Railway Vikas Nigam Limited. It will focus only on the maintenance of Vande Bharat sleeper coaches.
Swamy said, “The depot will be capable of inspecting and maintaining three trains at the same time. The workshop in the depot will have advanced machinery for lifting entire train rakes, transferring bogies using a drop pit table, and wheel-turning systems that will ensure uninterrupted maintenance of the Vande Bharat trains.”
Modern Facility
The Jodhpur maintenance depot will be able to service 8-9 trains every day. It will have some of the most modern railway machinery and systems ever installed in India’s railway network.
Officials said that every Vande Bharat sleeper coach must visit one of these maintenance depots every 4 days or after completing 3,500 km of travel, whichever comes first.
Apart from Jodhpur 4 other such Vande Bharat maintenance facilities are being built in different parts of India. These will be located at Thanisandra railway station in Bengaluru, Bijwasan in Delhi, Wadi Bandar in Mumbai, and Anand Vihar in Delhi.
