India’s Latest Warship ‘Mahendragiri’ to Launch in Mumbai on September 1: On September 1, the wife of Vice President Jagdeep Dhankar will inaugurate India’s newest warship, Mahendragiri, at the Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited in Mumbai, according to a statement from the Indian Navy.

The ship is the last of seven stealth frigates of the Nilgiri class to be constructed under Project 17 A.

“Project 17A ships were designed in-house by the Indian Navy’s Warship Design Bureau, the forerunner of all warship design activities. In accordance with the country’s unwavering commitment to ‘Aatma Nirbharata,’ 75 percent of the orders for apparatus and systems of Project 17A ships have been placed with indigenous companies, including Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). “The launch of Mahendragiri exemplifies the incredible progress our nation has made in constructing an independent naval force,” the Indian Navy said in a statement.

The launch of a warship signifies an important construction milestone and refers to the first time the vessel enters the water.
