International Day of Yoga, which is celebrated every year on June 21, is in its sixth edition this year. The day was initiated by Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi. June 21 was decided as World Yoga Day because it is the longest day of the summer solstice in the Northern Hemisphere, or in other words, this is the time of the Year when the sun moves from North to south. It is also one of the two important days when sun rays directly fall on either of the two tropical latitude lines.

This day is solely dedicated to practicing different yoga asanas and poses across the globe. Yoga is in practice in all the countries. For many people, yoga provides a retreat from their chaotic and busy lives. Yoga develops inner awareness. It focuses your attention on your body’s abilities at the present moment. It helps develop breath and strength of mind and body. The practice also helps to curb many life-threatening diseases.
