The pizza cake was part of a Boston Pizza promotion dubbed Pizza Game Changers, featuring numerous “outlandish” pizza-related products.
The pizza cake recipe became the promotion’s most popular, with 15,000 votes by April 21, 2014. Boston Pizza advertised it as “great for birthdays, bar mitzvahs, weddings, and even lonely nights watching infomercials.” Later in April, they posted a pizza cake recipe on “So Good Blog” and was described as “heavenly” by a Reddit user who attempted it. In September, Pillsbury Company posted a pizza cake recipe by Shawn Syphus and it went viral making them sometimes erroneously attributed as the creator of the recipe.
The Boston Pizza’s pizza cake is six-layered, and the Daily Mirror assigned it a total of 5,000 calories. There were varying reviews about the recipe. Some said it’s more complicated than it seemed, the crispiness in the crust was lacking, and it’s unhealthier than regular pizza. While others stated it was worth recommending. In the end, a review is just a review, right? You’ll never know unless you attempt it (and make it) from the many recipes of recipes to choose from online.
