iOS 18 Beta Release

iOS 18 Beta Release: We are just a few hours away from the rumoured announcement of iOS 18 at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2024, and leaked features continue to surface. The company may add Dark Mode customisations to app icons on the home screen, as well as Face ID-based unlocking for apps, according to MacRumors.

Expectations for iOS 18:

Apple introduced Dark Mode in iOS 13 to introduce darker elements across the UI interface, including the home screen.

Users who have enabled Dark Mode may also be able to alter app icons to give them a black/dark tint.

Initially, the feature may be available only to system apps. An application programming interface (API) may be available to third-party apps as well.

Earlier this week, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman suggested Apple could let users choose the color of their app icons. This might be tied to dark mode.

iOS 18 Feature Expectations:

The company may allow users to lock specific apps using Face ID. This may be available for system apps as an additional security layer. MacRumors speculates that this feature may work with Touch ID and the iPhone’s passcode as well.

For those unaware, the company already allows users to lock certain sections of the app behind Face ID, including notes in Notes and “Recently Deleted” and “Hidden” albums in Photos.

Users could use the new feature to lock apps completely and skip methods such as Screen Time or Shortcuts.

iOS 18 Beta Release Date (Expectations)

It is expected that Apple will unveil iOS 18 on June 10 at WWDC 2024, and the Developer Preview beta will be available for testers today.

The public beta is expected to be released next month, followed by a stable build around the launch of the iPhone 16 series in the first half of September.
