Cameron Green was signed by Mumbai for Rs 17.50 crore at the IPL 2023 auction on Friday in Kochi, becoming the league’s second most expensive player.

The Royal Challengers Bangalore and Mumbai Indians began bidding for the Australia player at Rs 2 crore. The price quickly surpassed Rs. 7 crore.

As the amount surpassed Rs. 10 crore, the Delhi Capitals also entered the race. The Capitals and Indians battled for the player even after he was worth $15 million.

The Mumbai Indians persisted with Green as his price rose past multiple record levels and eventually acquired him.

He now ranks second in the IPL’s most expensive auction buys. In the same auction, Punjab Kings signed Sam Curran for 18.50 crore.

Green made his T20I debut for Australia in April 2022. Green has a strike rate of 173.75 and two 50+ scores in eight games. Both fiftys came against India in November, with 61 coming off 30 balls and 52 coming off 21 deliveries.

Green has five wickets in seven innings with the ball. He has a 35.60 average and an economy of 8.90.

Following the injury to Josh Inglis, the all-rounder was added to Australia’s T20 World Cup squad.

Green’s first appearance in the IPL will be in 2023. He plays in the Big Bash League for the Perth Scorchers, but has only appeared in nine games so far.
