Ben Stokes sold to Chennai Super Kings for Rs 16.25 crore at IPL auction 2023

CSK signed Ben Stokes for Rs. 16.25 crore at the IPL 2023 auction in Kochi on Friday. After playing a key role in England’s T20 World Cup victory earlier this year, Stokes drew interest from a number of teams. Stokes has surpassed Deepak Chahar as CSK’s most expensive player.

England allrounder Ben Stokes entered the tournament for Rs 2 crore. Before LSG entered the Rs 7 crore bid, RCB competed with RR. Soon after, SRH joined the fray, followed by CSK. The MS Dhoni-led team eventually acquired Stokes for Rs 16.25 crore, the third-highest price tag in IPL history.

Stokes scored an unbeaten 52 to lead the Three Lions to victory over Pakistan in the final at the MCG. In the tournament, the right-arm medium pacer took six wickets with an economy of 6.79.

Stokes will return to the IPL for the new season. The Rajasthan Royals released Stokes prior to the 2022 mega auction. He eventually decided to withdraw from the season.

Stokes previously played for the now-defunct Rising Pune Supergiant, who acquired him for Rs 14.5 crore in 2017.

The England international has scored 920 runs at a strike rate of 134.50 in 43 IPL games. He has taken 28 wickets at an 8.56 economy rate. In addition, he has an unbeaten IPL century, which he scored for Supergiant against Gujarat Lions in 2017.
