The alleged accused in the Jaipur BMW case, Siddharth Mahariya has been sent to a three day judicial custody. He is the son of an independent MLA Nandkishore Maharia. Three people were killed and five injured when a speeding BMW allegedly driven by Siddharth, in a drunken state, rammed into an auto.

Earlier in a curious twist to the case a man on Sunday appeared in a local court where accused Siddharth Maharia was produced and claimed that he was driving the car when the mishap occurred. Ramesh filed an application before the authorities claiming that it was him behind the wheels, when his car hit the auto rickshaw and the police van. The speed of the car was more than a 100 km per hour.

Four policemen including an Assistant Sub-Inspector were also injured.

As per the breathanalyser test conducted soon after the incident, Siddharth Maharia’s alcohol level was found to be 152 mg/100 ml, while the permissible limit is 30 mg/100 ml, police said. Siddharth, however, claimed that he was not driving the car and also denied having consumed alcohol.
