Jamia student and family holds anti-CAA placards at her wedding

On Monday, December 23, a student of Jamia Millia Islamia decided to mix the personal and political by using anti-CAA placards at her wedding.

Amina Zakiah, a postgraduate student at the varsity who resides in the nearby locality of Abul Fazl Enclave, said she had been attending the protests regularly even two days before her wedding.

The bride said that she used her marriage as a platform to highlight the issue of CAA and NRC. She said that the idea came to her as she could not participate in the anti-CAA and NRC protests due to her marriage. The student then decided to use her marriage as a platform to protest.

“Being a student of Jamia and a concerned citizen of this country, I had to use my wedding as a platform to raise my voice against the National Register of Citizens and discriminatory CAA as it will affect the secular fabric of our country,” she said.

Also, the protest was held after taking permission from the groom’s family. It was held after their approval on the same.

The family members of the bride, as well as the groom, held anti-CAA and anti-NRC placards on the marriage stage. Posters of revolutionary poets such as Habib Jalil and Faiz Ahmad Faiz.
