JCERT New Guidelines for Jharkhand Schools: The Jharkhand Council of Educational Research and Training (JCERT) has brought out the new set of academic guidelines that impact the entire state’s schools and come with a series of remarkable changes. These changes are to protect the time of learning in the classroom and to create an academic calendar that is not overloaded. The new orders have been given that apply to all types of schools: government, those receiving aid, and minority-aided, and the whole span of grades from preschool to college and so the school will operate based on these rules in the coming academic year.

School Rallies and Prabhat Pheris Restricted
One of the most important aspects of the new JCERT regulations is the prohibition of school rallies, marches, and prabhat pheris during the academic hours. The new regulations state that schools are only allowed to carry out such activities on the above-mentioned days, i.e. Independence Day, Republic Day, and Gandhi Jayanti. All other rallies or consciousness-raising activities are not allowed during class time, regardless of whether they are started by schools or are used by other departments.
JCERT has laid down the rule that if any such activity is unavoidable, it should be done after school hours, preferably after 3 PM, so that teaching is not disturbed. This decision is a reflection of the increasing concern that the frequent presence of non-academic matters in schools has resulted in the loss of teaching time.
Educational authorities have made it clear that the action taken is purely aimed at improving the quality of education and raising the level of basic skills.
Summer Vacation Extended to 16 Days
In a different direction, JCERT has prolonged the summer vacation from 14 days to 16 days as a result of the notable change. The revision was made because the two holidays that were previously announced coincided with the third Saturday off which is a weekly day off, hence cutting down the actual vacation time for the students to about 12 days.
The council has also confirmed that winter vacation will remain eight days long, with scope for extension if weather conditions such as cold waves warrant school closures, subject to government or district-level orders.

Uniform Holiday Calendar with Local Flexibility
Importantly, the unified holiday calendar isn’t just limited to government schools; it is applicable to aided and grant-in-aid minority institutions as well, covering all levels from primary to plus-two (Class 12). Additionally, the plan permits districts to take optional holidays for the purpose of celebrating local festivals and conducting cultural activities, highlighting that the policy is in harmony with the vast cultural diversity of Jharkhand.
