Jehanabad–Vanavar Ropeway Update:Bihar is set to boost its tourism infrastructure with the upcoming Jehanabad–Vanavar ropeway, which is now nearing completion and expected to drastically cut travel time to the historic hilltop site. The project, which Jehanabad district will build in the Vanavar (Barabar hills) area, serves as the state’s second major ropeway system that will enhance both accessibility and tourist attractions in the region.

Jehanabad–Vanavar Ropeway Update: Project Overview

The ropeway development connects the base area of Makhdumpur block in Jehanabad to the Vanavar hills, which people commonly refer to as the “Himalayas of Magadh.” The ancient Barabar caves, which belong to the Mauryan period, remain accessible throughout the region because they represent one of India’s oldest rock-cut cave systems.

The construction work on the project started after the project received official approval which had been pending since its initiation more than three years ago. After the required forest areas were cleared and basic construction work started.

Nearing Completion

The latest information shows that the ropeway project has achieved its final construction stage because Bihar government projects have created fast infrastructure development which supports the state’s tourism development objectives.

Local officials report construction progress, which will establish operational status for the ropeway system that will improve regional transportation links.

Travel Time to Drop from Hours to Minutes

The hilltop areas of Vanavar are accessible to visitors through two challenging paths which require either walking or driving to reach their destination.

The ropeway system will begin operations to achieve three main objectives:

  • Cut down travel times to only several minutes.
  • Enable elderly people and visitors to reach all areas of the facility.
  • Decrease the physical effort that people need to use when they ascend the hills.

The Barabar caves and adjacent attractions will receive more visitors because of this change. State has been investigating safety measures for ropeways because of past safety issues with the system.

Safety Concerns

The authorities will apply strict quality control procedures which will include testing and compliance checks to ensure the Jehanabad ropeway meets all necessary standards before its public opening.

Officials predict that the project will reach its finishing point in May 2026. The Vanavar Hills will become accessible to tourists within several minutes who wish to reach the summit of the hills while they take in the breathtaking landscape of the area.
