Bokaro: A 23-year-old married woman was allegedly garlanded with shoes, thrashed and paraded semi-nude on the streets in Chapi by her community members over an illicit relationship with a village man.
According to police in-Charge of Kathara OP, B.P. Singh, the woman was allegedly beaten up and paraded half-naked by the members of the Mahila Samittee of her community for being in love with a man from another caste at Chapi village under Kathara police station.
The video of the incident, which took place on Friday, surfaced on social media on Saturday.
ASP, Anjani Anjan,Bermo took cognisance of the incident and issued a notice to the police station, asking them to have the matter probed and send the panel a detailed report.
The 23-year-old woman’s hands were tied up with a rope, her hair was chopped and a garland of slippers was put on her and she paraded in the entire village.
The women of the village together carried out all the incident.
While the male class remained spectacled, said village representative. Sources said that when police arrived, stone pelting took place.
The FIR was lodged against 20 women and other unidentified person, police arrested five accused on Saturday. Raids are taking place to nab the others, police said.
Some people also said that seeing the situation uncontrolled, the police had to prepare for aerial firing. After this, Bermo ASP Anjani Anjan sent women’s force, who brought the woman to the police station.
Tenughat OP in-charge B.P. Singh said that at night the woman was taken to Community Health Center Gomia for her treatment. The woman has not yet filed a complaint against anyone.
