A nerve-chilling incident of human trafficking has come to light from Jharkhand where the brokers sold a 16-year-old tribal teenager in Delhi. When the teenager was handed over to the buyer, she was held hostage there. Along with doing domestic work, the buyer sexually and physically harassed her.
However, after the continuous torture of over 45 days, one night she managed to escape. She walked for two months to reach home. Without being able to speak Hindi and having my means of communication, she showed indomitable courage in crossing a long series of obstacles. During this time, she spent many nights on trees to avoid any untoward incident.
The victim is a resident of Sahibganj village in the backward districts of Jharkhand. Her father has passed away and the mother works as a laborer.
Director of Child Rights Protection Institute, Jharkhand, DK Saxena said that the child welfare committee is looking into the victim’s case.
