Jharkhand: Khunti turf hockey ground gets FIH field certificate

The International Hockey Federation (FIH) has awarded the field certificate to Aturf hockey ground in Jharkhand’s Khunti district, according to an official statement.

Khunti, about 40 kilometres from Ranchi, has earned the distinction of being the state’s hockey nursery, producing a dozen international women players, including Nikki Pradhan, known for her outstanding performance in the Tokyo Olympics.

“The turf hockey ground at Bisra College in Khunti has received the FIH field certificate, which is awarded after a thorough quality assessment. This is an important step toward not only providing adequate resources to the players but also ensuring their on-field safety,” according to a statement issued by the state government.

It will also serve to meet the standards for organising international matches, according to the statement.

“This monumental move is being well received by the state’s players, who will now be able to hone their talents while getting to practise at an international standards ground,” according to the statement.

It was stated that the state is attempting to facilitate sports and athletes while also attempting to build the capacity of the players.

It is stated that priority is being given to the construction of international-level turf hockey grounds in various districts.

Several such grounds are being built, including in Simdega and Chaibasa. The FIH quality programme for hockey turf includes field certification to ensure that the fields are built to the highest standards and that FIH-approved products are properly installed.

A federation-accredited test institute independently tests a FIH-certified field to ensure it meets the requirements of the FIH quality programme for hockey turf.

Measurement of how the ball interacts with the playing surface, verification of whether adequate comfort and protection are provided to the players, and whether the field has been built to dimensions are all part of the testing.

Field certification also includes a thorough series of quality control checks to ensure that the installed hockey turf product is identical to the FIH-approved one.
