Jharkhand: Rift in Grand Alliance amidst Kolebira by-polls, Congress to field candidate

Ranchi: Congress is set to field its candidate from Kolebira Assembly seat and has sent a list of three probable candidates to the high command for final approval. A source close to the party has said that apart from Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), there is no unanimity on supporting the former MLA Enos Ekka’s wife as a united opposition candidate.

Jharkhand Pradesh Congress Committee (JPCC) President Doctor Ajoy Kumar had a long meeting with JMM leader Hemant Soren on Friday. After the meeting, Kumar told media that Congress party will field its own candidate against Menon Ekka.

When he was asked about Guruji (Shibu Soren) blessing to Menon, JPCC President said, “He is a big leader of Jharkhand and has given his blessing to anybody who visited him.”

He further stated that Jharkhand Vikas Morcha, Rashtriya Janata Dal, and Jharkhand Mukti Morcha have decided not to field their candidate so Congress will field its candidate which will be backed by Grand Alliance.

On the other hand, JMM leader Hemant Soren speaking with media said, “We have decided to support Menon Ekka and that decision is final and he is trying to convince other parties who are part of Grand Alliance.”

Earlier Jharkhand Party candidate Menon Ekka has got the blessing from JMM Chief Shibu Soren as she is the only hope of the party who will decide the fate of representation in the Assembly.

Jharkhand Party’s chief Enos Ekka who has been convicted in a murder case was the only MLA of the party representing in the state assembly.

The last date for filing of nomination is December 3.

Jharkhand Congress media in charge Rajesh Thakur has said that the party is firm on its stand will contest the bye-election. State spokesperson Lal Kishore Nath Sahdeo said, “Apart from JMM other opposition parties are with Congress decision and we will field our own candidate.”

He further stated that Enos has a history of supporting BJP and that’s why we are against his candidate and the entire opposition is united and in favour of Congress, barring JMM.

Sources closed to Congress said, “Niyal Tirki, Vishal Tirky, and Vixel Kongadi are among the three names sent for the approval from party high command.”
