In the Karnataka Assembly elections next month, Kannada superstar Kiccha Sudeep is likely to campaign for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

He is likely to talk about his plan at a press conference with CM Basavraj Bommai on Wednesday.

But it’s still not clear if he will join the BJP and run for office. Sources close to Sudeep say that the actor’s family will meet on Wednesday at 10 a.m. at his house to talk about whether he will join the BJP and run for office or just campaign for the party.

Sources said the actor could also consider campaigning for the BJP in the assembly elections and claim an MLC post later. He is likely to seek an assembly ticket for his close aide and producer Manju.

After he talks with his family, the actor will make his final choice.

In central Karnataka, especially among the ST community, Sudeep has a lot of fans. He is a member of the Nayaka group, which is a ST.

The BJP is yet to release its list of candidates for May 10 elections. CM Bommai said that the BJP’s Parliamentary Board is likely to meet on April 8 to finalise the list of BJP candidates.

He said that the survey report for each constituency is already in the hands of the ruling party, but that the party has asked each District Core Committee for their thoughts on the shortlisted candidates.

“At the State Core Committee meeting on Tuesday, we will talk about the names suggested by the district committees. After that, we will send the list to the Central Parliamentary Board.” The names will probably be decided at a meeting of the Parliamentary Board on April 8, after discussion, Bommai said.

Assembly polls are scheduled to be held in a single phase on May 10 and counting will take place on May 13.

Congress and JD(S), two opposition parties, have already put out their first lists of candidates for the election. New to the state, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has also released its list of candidates.
