Bengaluru: State Excise Minister mulls to launch a scheme providing subsidised alcohol for poor

Bengaluru: State Excise minister H Nagesh, has made a controversial statement on the last day of 2019 stating, he would be providing alcoholic drinks at subsidized rates. The minister also made the same sort of statement earlier by stating that alcoholic drinks will be delivered to the doorstep of consumers.

He spoke at the Vikas Soudha, he stated, “The government is thinking of providing the cheap liquor, which is consumed mostly by the poorer section of the society, at a subsidized rate. A scheme is also being chalked out to supply good quality alcohol at cheap rates.”

Uncertainty still remains as to know whether this statement is a personal one from the minister or a development that has actually taken place in the government as earlier also the minister had said that the alcoholic drinks will be provided to the doorstep of the consumers, which made a huge controversy in the state.

Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa interfered in the matter and tried to clear the air by saying that such thought is not there with the government. Now it has to be seen whether CM Yediyurappa will give a go-ahead for this thought of the Excise minister or not.
