Senior Congress leader and MP from Bihar’s Kishanganj, Maulana Asrar-ul-Haque Qasmi, passed away in the early hours of Friday December 7, following a heart attack.
On hearing upon Qasmi’s demise, Congress Chief Rahul Gandi extended his condolences. Taking to his Twitter account, Rahul Gandhi said,
किशनगंज से कांग्रेस पार्टी के लोकप्रिय सांसद, मौलाना असरारुल हक साहब, के निधन की ख़बर सुनकर बेहद दुःख हुआ।

Qasmi won the Kishanganj seat in 2009 general elections by contesting on an Indian National Congress ticket after five consecutive failures. He retained his constituency in the 2014 general elections by defeating BJP’s Dilip Kumar Jaiswal.
The 76-year-old Qasmi was a noted Islamic scholar. He was a member of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board and also a founder member of the All India Milli Council. Haque was the state president of Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind, a leading Islamic organisation in India.
