LPG Price Hike 2 April 2026:The LPG crisis in India has worsened because geopolitical conflicts in West Asia have disrupted essential energy transportation networks. The Indian vessels which carry LPG have been waiting for naval authorization to proceed from their location near Abu Musa Island which has created nation-wide panic about fuel shortages and escalating costs.

3 Indian LPG Ships Await Navy Orders Near Abu Musa

Three Indian ships which transport LPG have reached their current location near Abu Musa Island. They now wait for the Indian Navy to provide them with permission to pass through the Strait of Hormuz which serves as a vital military area.

The delay comes amid heightened military tensions in the region because the Hormuz passage has become dangerous and military forces observe the area closely. The Indian Navy has been actively coordinating safe transit for merchant vessels which they usually escort through dangerous areas. The Strait of Hormuz serves as one of the most vital energy transportation points which controls almost 20 percent of international oil and gas shipments.

India’s LPG Supply Crisis Deepens

India relies on imports for 60 percent of its LPG requirements and 90 percent of these imports come from Middle Eastern countries through the Hormuz Strait.

Reports indicate that several ships, including LPG tankers, are either waiting for clearance or navigating under naval protection.

  • Mumbai: ~₹2,000+ (approx after hike)

What Changed Recently?

The price of commercial LPG saw an increase of ₹195.50 on April 1 2026. The past 4 months have seen price increases which approached ₹500 for each cylinder.

The global LPG benchmark Saudi CP experienced a surge of approximately 44 which caused the price increase.

The Indian government uses naval support for ship protection while it investigates new import routes to manage the crisis. The government is working to develop new sources of LPG from countries outside the Middle East while maintaining adequate buffer stock.
