The Maharashtra government drops all charges against former Mumbai Police commissioner Param Bir Singh, revokes suspension orders issued in December 2021, and orders the suspension period to be regarded as on duty.

In March, the Bombay High Court rejected a petition to investigate the alleged involvement of former Mumbai police commissioner Param Bir Singh in the 2021 terror scare and murder of businessman Mansukh Hiran. The court noted that the petitioner’s evidence consisted solely of “hearsay evidence.”

Five extortion-related cases have been registered against Param Bir Singh in Maharashtra. Three of the five FIRs are being investigated by the state criminal investigation division (CID), while the remaining two are being investigated by the Bombay crime branch and the Thane police.
