Union minister, Mahendra Nath Pandey, was appointed as the new Uttar Pradesh Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president on Thursday.
BJP national president, Amit Shah, appointed him as the next UP BJP chief with immediate effect.
Pandey is a BJP Member of Parliament from Chandauli constituency.
He succeeds Uttar Pradesh deputy chief minister, Keshav Prasad Maurya, who is the current UP BJP president. The latter congratulated the new BJP chief.
The decision to appoint a new BJP state chief comes as Maurya is expected to be elected to the Legislative Council to continue as deputy chief minister of the state.
