Major Chitresh Bisht who martyred defusing mine at LoC, was set to get married in March

Two days after the Pulwama attack in which 45 CRPF personnel lost their lives, another Army jawan was killed while defusing a landmine near the Nowshera sector on Saturday.

31-year-old Major Chitresh Singh Bisht lost his life while defusing a land mine along the Line of Control (LoC) in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir on February 17. The officer was spearheading a squad of bomb disposal unit when mines were found in Jammu and Kashmir’s Naushera sector. While one mine was diffused, another went off.  He died of his injuries.

Major Bisht is survived by his parents. His father is a retired policeman and his mother is a homemaker. He was due to get married next month.

Unfortunately, Bisht was to return home next month for a blissful marriage in Dehradun on March 07. His father was engaged with his son’s marriage preparations when he received the bad news.

Speaking to media, the inconsolable father said, “He was our younger son. We used to speak almost every day over the phone but today we couldn’t speak and this incident happened. He was about to get married next month.”

Trivendra Singh Rawat, Uttarakhand Chief Minister also paid tribute to Major Chitresh Bisht and offered condolences to the family. The Indian Army also in its tweet paid tribute to the martyr
