Make in India iPhone 15 Set to Zoom into Global Markets: Foxconn is preparing to begin local production of the next-generation iPhone 15 at its Sriperumbudur facility near Tamil Nadu more quickly than ever before, doubling down on its ‘Make in India’ initiative.

Apple plans to deliver locally-assembled iPhone 15 as soon as it is launched globally in the middle of next month, according to sources close to the development, in order to reduce the launch-to-availability lacuna and increase its exports from India to other countries.

According to sources, a limited number of ‘Make in India’ iPhone 15 units are likely to be exported to other nations shortly after its global release. They added that other Apple suppliers in India, including Pegatron and Wistron (which is being acquired by the Tata Group), will also assemble the iPhone 15 as soon as feasible. Bloomberg was the first news source to disclose the development.

In September of 2017, Apple began assembling iPhone 14 at the Foxconn facility in India, marking the first time in years that a new iPhone was assembled in the country within weeks of its global release.

This time, the deadline has been moved nearly a month earlier so that the locally-assembled iPhone 15 can go on sale in the country simultaneously with the rest of the world before the holiday season and can be exported quickly.

Tim Cook, the chief executive officer of Apple, announced earlier this month that the company set a June quarter record in India, propelled by robust iPhone sales. Cook stated that the performance of “our new stores in India this spring exceeded our expectations” during the company’s third quarter results for fiscal year 2023.

In response to a specific query about India’s potential, Cook stated, “As you know, we set a June quarter revenue record in India, and we grew by double digits. During the quarter, we also opened our first two retail stores, and while it’s still early, their performance is presently exceeding our expectations.

He added that the company continues to expand its direct-to-consumer channel and invest more in its direct-to-consumer offerings in the country. “We still have a minuscule proportion of this smartphone market, so I believe it’s a tremendous opportunity for us. “And we are exerting every effort to make this happen,” he added.

Apple, with the highest average selling price (ASP) of $929, experienced a tremendous 61 percent year-over-year growth in India from April to June, as reported by IDC. India is now one of Apple’s top five global markets, as the iPhone maker continued to dominate the ultra-premium segment (above Rs 45,000). The India Cellular and Electronics Association (ICEA) predicts that Apple’s market share will surpass 50% in FY24.
