Chandigarh, Aug 10 (IANS) Justice Uday Umesh Lalit of the Supreme Court on Saturday stressed the need to make people aware of their responsibilities besides rights to make them more responsible towards society.
Stating that knowledge about rights make a lot of difference for an individual, Justice Lalit said one should not get bogged down by rights but should also be alive to his/her social responsibilities.
He was addressing a function at the Deen Bandhu Chhotu Ram University of Science and Technology in Murthal of Haryana.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar said the ‘Lemon’ (legal, moral and education about nationalism) education should also be imparted to the students, apart from the legal literacy.
While legal education would help people aware of their rights, moral education would inculcate high values and also bring down the number of litigations, he said.
Justice Hemant Gupta of the Supreme Court urged students to save water for the next generations.
Chief Justice Krishan Murari of the Punjab and Haryana High Court said legal knowledge played a vital role in the social transformation and uplift of society. A legal literacy mission was launched in Haryana in 2009 to impart knowledge, he added.
