Bengaluru Guy Receives 10000 Compensation: After a store sold him outdated oats, a man from Bengaluru became unwell. The man sued the well-known grocery chain for damages, and because to his attentive attitude, he was able to receive a settlement of 10,000 rupees from them.

The man bought Honey Oats from a well-known supermarket, which is how the terrible situation was discovered. The man ate the oats and got sick. After carefully examining the goods box, he discovered that the grocer had falsely increased the original expiration date and hidden it with a new label.

He then went up to the store workers, but he didn’t get a good response from them. He then chose the lawful path. The supermarket received a legal notification from him accusing them of unfair business practises. The Bengaluru Additional District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission was tasked with handling the matter. Regarding the relabeling issue, his attorney made a strong case. The supermarket was ordered to pay the guy damages, which included a complete return of the item valued 925 rupees, after the court decided in his favour. They further ordered the shop to reimburse the guy for the 5000 rupees in medical expenses he incurred as a result of ingesting the spoiled food. In addition to all of this, the court also ordered the store to pay the man’s legal costs, which came to a total of 5000 rupees during this entire procedure. A saviour for consumer rights is the Consumer Protection Bill.

The historic Consumer Protection Bill, 2019 was approved by the Indian Parliament with the intention of facilitating prompt and efficient administration and resolution of consumer issues. The 2019 Consumer Protection Act was passed to safeguard consumers’ interests. With the help of this law, consumers are protected from subpar goods, unsatisfactory services, and dishonest business practises.

The Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) is proposed to be established as a regulatory body in the Act. The Act specifies that consumer complaints will be handled by Consumer Disputes Redressal Commissions (CDRCs) at the national, state, and district levels.

The selling of hazardous goods and services, the sale of faulty goods or services, unfair or restrictive business practises, overcharging or misleading charging, and other complaints will all be investigated by CDRCs.

The new Act also includes measures that make it possible for customers to submit complaints online. Additionally, consumers won’t need to retain legal counsel to handle their complaints. The new Act’s numerous rules and clauses will give consumers more power and assist them in safeguarding their rights. The new Act will contribute to preserving the rights and interests of consumers. Consumer redressal rules would need to be well-developed for consumer-driven industries like retail and e-commerce. Additionally, the new Act will compel consumer-focused companies to adopt extra security measures against dishonest business practises and unfair trade practises.
