Pokémon Go, the augmented reality game that was released in 2016 has given adventure and thrills to thousands of players around the world and has sent them on unplanned journeys.

While there are some dedicated players who are still willing to do just about anything to catch Pokemons.

One man from Melbourne reportedly walked 14 kilometres amid COVID-19 restrictions in order to play Pokémon Go.

The man was stopped during his ‘hunt’ by Melbourne police and slapped with a fine of $1,652 for violating lockdown restrictions in the city.

However, he is not the only person who has been booked by authorities in Melbourne for playing Pokemon Go ever since parts of Victoria went into Stage 3 lockdown. Two other men were caught doing the same over the weekend.

Following the incidents, Victoria police and state government authorities expressed concerns over people breaking lockdown rules. Melbourne has now gone into Stage 4 lockdown, which restricts movement of people to not more than 5 km from their homes.

“This really puts beyond doubt their powers. It ensures they have the right tools they need to enforce all the directives and ensure compliance with those directives,” said Police Minister Lisa Neville.

Last month, a man drove 32 km from his home to the main city in search of Butter Chicken. By doing so, he violated the city’s lockdown rules and was slapped with a fine of $1,652.

The man, who has not been named, drove from Werribee that is 32 km west of Melbourne. Unfortunately, he could never make it to the restaurant and ended up being caught by the police.

People were both shocked and amused at the same time when learned about the man’s craving. Netizens, especially Indians, were quick to react to the story. One user said, “If it was nice butter chicken, I would probably do the same.”
