Manjhi Assembly Constituency 2025:Manjhi is an assembly constituency (No. 114) in Saran district, Bihar. It is part of the Maharajganj Lok Sabha constituency.
The constituency is classified as a general (non-reserved) seat. Its area includes: all of the Jalalpur Community Development (CD) Block; multiple Gram Panchayats (village councils) from Manjhi CD Block; and three Gram Panchayats from Baniapur CD Block.
Voters, and Local Issues
In terms of demographics and voter profile, Manjhi is “caste-fragmented” with significant populations of Other Backward Classes (OBCs) and Dalits / Mahadalits. Agriculture is primary livelihood; local issues often revolve around flood risk, infrastructure (roads, connectivity), development of rural amenities, and delivery of welfare schemes. Because the land is fertile but vulnerable to natural events, managing water (irrigation & flood control) is often high on the agenda.
Manjhi Assembly Constituency 2025: Recent Political History
Over past decades, the political currents in Manjhi have shifted among multiple parties: Congress, Janata Dal, JD(U), various Janata formations, and sometimes independent candidates. In the 2010s and especially in 2020, newer dynamics emerged: left parties, independents have made inroads, reflecting local dissatisfaction or demand for better governance.
In 2020, Dr. Satyendra Yadav of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI(M)) won the seat, defeating independent Rana Pratap Singh by a margin of about 25,386 votes. This was notable because it indicated that non-mainstream parties could beat stronger party machines if they address ground level issues well.
Election Numbers (2010–2020)
From 2010 to 2020, Manjhi has seen several election cycles. In 2010, Gautam Singh of JD(U) won. In 2015, Vijay Shanker Dubey of Congress grabbed it, showing a swing away from JD(U). And then in 2020, as mentioned, Dr. Satyendra Yadav (CPI(M)) won.
Vote shares have varied: in 2020, Satyendra Yadav had ~37.5-38% of votes, Rana Pratap Singh (IND) had ~21.5%, JD(U) candidate Madhavi Kumari had ~18.5%. Margins have sometimes been large, other times not. The shift between parties suggests that local candidates’ reputation, caste equations, and delivery of welfare matter a lot.
