Meet Luke Wesley Pearson: American brand Harry’s, which specialises in men’s grooming, body, face, and hair products, recently collaborated with transgender man Luke Wesley Pearson to promote a new set of razors. Pearson broke the news via social media when he uploaded an Instagram video to his portfolio.

Conservative internet users immediately compared Harry’s to Bud Light (the beer brand partnered with a trans woman in March for their prohibited advertisement) and demanded that the brand be boycotted for being too “woke” and for joining the LGBTQ+ community.

In addition, the Internet criticised Harry’s for donating one hundred percent of the proceeds from its new razor set to the Trevor Project, which supports gender-transitioning surgery for children.

Ohni Lisle, a Brooklyn-based artist, illustrator, and LGBTQ+ advocate, collaborated with Harry’s and their sister brand Meet Flamingo to create the Harry’s 2023 Face & Body Shave Set.

The bundle includes a razor handle, a facial razor by Harry’s, and a body razor by Flamingo. According to Pearson, who is promoting the set, the greatest aspect is that all proceeds will go to the Trevor Project, a campaign that promotes gender transition. Pearson concluded his caption with, “Feeling handsome and proud to be me every single day of the year. #HarrysPartner”

In the 34-second clip, he is shown demonstrating the Harry’s Razor set alongside a woman. As a child, he lost out on going through puberty, growing facial hair, and learning how to shave, so he was always envious of those experiences.

Afterwards, he is shown shaving his own beard, with text on-screen stating that he relishes “growing and maintaining a beard.”

The clip concludes with him informing the audience that “razors aren’t gendered,” as they are designed for either the face or the body.

Internet Response to Advertising Campaign

Unfortunately for Luke Weasley Pearson, the trans digital creative, and Harry’s Razors, the promotional campaign did not go over well with online users, who criticised the latter for being too “woke” and following in Bud Light’s footsteps. Conservative males have stated publicly that they will boycott the brand in response to the recent decision.

The Harry’s Razors controversy follows a Bud Light boycott that began in May in response to an endorsement agreement with trans-TikTok influencer Dylan Mulvaney. In response, conservative industrialist Seth Weathers released “Ultra-Right” beer last month.

Similarly, when a trans woman was recruited for Hershey’s chocolate PR campaign in March to honour International Women’s Day, the right-wing was outraged by its “wokeness.” Conservative Daily Wire founder and CEO Jeremy Boreing responded by launching Jeremy’s Chocolate. It was accompanied by a transphobic statement as well as a “He/Him” chocolate bar with almonds and a “She/Her” chocolate bar without nuts.

After Harry’s Razors withdrew their advertisements from Daily Wire, citing the media outlet’s anti-LGBTQ+ content, Boring introduced Jeremy’s Razors as a brand of ‘non-woke’ toiletries for men.
