The Meghalaya government has taken up a decision similar to that of Kerala to allow home delivery of liquor against prescriptions issued by a registered medical practitioner. The attempt will be a temporary measure to cater to the “essential health needs” of “genuine customers” during the 21-day lockdown.
“The government has allowed home delivery of alcohol but will be done strictly on the basis of health constraints,” deputy secretary, of excise department, B Syiemlieh said.
“Warehouses may be allowed to sell liquor as a special case up to April 14,” excise department official stated.
However, government doctors in Kerala have decided to boycott the state’s order to prescribe alcohol to those with withdrawal symptoms.
Related to this, On Wednesday the doctors in Kerala will have a ‘protest day’. CM Pinarayi Vijayan, however, said that the government never demanded that doctors prescribe alcohol.
