“Paon Saryu main abhi Ram ne dhoye bhi na they,
Ki nazar aaye wahan khoon ke gehre dhabbe

Paon dhoye bina Saryu ke kinare se uthe,
Ram yeh kehte huye apne duare se uthe,

Rajdhaani ki faza aaye nahin raas mujhe,
6 December ko mila doosra Vanvaas mujhe”

Kaifi Azmi was a literary genius who is still remembered fondly for his mesmerizing Urdu poetry. He used words beautifully to rebel against the then prevailing societal norms to advocate for a progressive society.

Though every poem of Kaifi Azmi’s is a masterpiece that needs to be relived over and over again, he wrote the poem “Ram ka dusra Vanvaas” in the aftermath of the horrific Babri demolition that happened on 6th December, 1992. The bloodbath shook Azmi, who grew up seeing the close weave of ‘Ganga-Jamuni Tahzeeb’ during his childhood at Azamgarh, to the core.

As a staunch proponent of communal harmony, he penned the lines with a heavy heart. The poem revolves around the emotions of Lord Ram who is dismayed upon seeing the carnage his followers were carrying out in his name and decides to go back to exile once again.

On his 15th death anniversary, Newsd brings to you the touching lines. Do watch the video:
