#MeToo: Sajid Khan refutes all complaints levelled against him

The Me Too movement in India led to shocking revelations from women of the Indian Film Industry. Women who were working in Bollywood accused many prominent personalities of sexual misconduct. Amidst all the names that had been accused, Sajid Khan was one of the most shocking predators. The director had been accused by actress Rachel White, assistant director Saloni Chopra and journalist Karishma Upadhyay of sexual harassment.

Post this, many film authorities came into action. One of them was Indian Film & Television Directors’ Association. They sent a notice to Sajid Khan seeking an explanation of the complaints against him. Now, after the notice, for the first time, Sajid Khan has sent his reply to IFTDA and has denied all allegations levelled against him. In a report by Bombay Times, Sajid replied to IFTDA notice, “I apologise to IFTDA if any embarrassment has been caused to the association by the alleged accusation against me. These allegations have not only caused irreparable harm to my career, but more importantly, grieved my mother and sister immensely. At the outset, I deny the complaints levelled against me as stated in your notice. I humbly request you to not to form any one-sided judgement. I am always happy to extend any cooperation to my association.”

After receiving a response from the director, a meeting has been scheduled by IFTDA on November 1 with Sajid Khan and Internal Complaints Council. The statement of the associations said, “We have scheduled a meeting of IFTDA ICC on Thursday, November 1 at IFTDA office to hear you for the POSH (Prevention of Sexual Harassment) Act enquiry, which is based on the principle of natural justice and the alleged harasser is provided an opportunity before any disciplinary action is taken. Therefore, attend the meeting as scheduled.”

After the director had been accused, his sister Farah Khan had taken to social media and had requested the media to give her some time to process the information. She had tweeted, “This is a heartbreaking time for my family.We have to work through some very difficult issues. If my brother has behaved in this manner he has a lot to atone for.I don’t in any way endorse this behavior and Stand in solidarity with any woman who has been hurt.” Post the allegations, Sajid Khan also had stepped away from Housefull 4. In his reply to IFTDA notice he mentioned that the claims against him have caused harm to his work and reputation along with hurting his family. The Me Too movement in India began after actress Tanushree Dutta had accused Nana Patekar of sexual harassment on the sets of Horn Ok Pleassss in 2008. Now, the movement is seeing alot of support in India and is gaining momentum with time.
