MF Hussain Birth anniversary: The Pablo Picasso Of India Maqbool Fida Hussain is one of the most talented Indian artists of the 21st century. He is popularly known as MF Hussain who made a huge contribution to the history of art. His paintings depicted different social and mythology issues. Hussain was a self-taught artist who started his career by painting posters of the entertainment industry.

People associate MF Hussain with Indian modernism, he was the founder of the Bombay Progressive Artists group. The great artist is known for his paintings in series which depicted the new India after Independence in the Cubist style. He also made paintings Gandhi, Mother Teresa, the Ramayana, the Mahabharata, the British Raj, and Indians of urban and rural life.

However, Hussian’s work was also critisied and his nude paintings on Hindu deities attracted a lot of controversies when right-wing organisations wanted him behind the bars and filed a case against him. For those who don’t know, he accepted Qatari citizenship in 2008. Hussian bagged many awards including Padma Shri, Padma Bhushan, Padma Vibhushan, National Art Award, International Biennale Award among others.
