Samajwadi Party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav on Friday said the party’s chief ministerial candidate will be decided by elected party legislators after the 2017 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections. “SP legislature party will decide on the name of chief minister,” said Mulayam, indicating that his son and current chief minister Akhilesh Yadav may not be nominated as the CM face before elections.
His remark comes amid strife within the party between the Uttar Pradesh CM Akhilesh Yadav and senior party leader and his uncle, Shivpal Yadav.
Emphasising on his importance in the party, Mulayam said that it was because of him that the party has reached great heights, adding that people continue to believe in it and there never was or will be a dispute in it. “Samajwadi Party has reached such heights because of me. There has never been any dispute in the family since three generations and the situation remains the same. People still believe in Samajwadi Party,” he said.
