With the soaring temperature, the cases of chicken pox and respiratory illnesses are on the rise, said the municipal health department. The cases of viral infection, chicken pox go up in fluctuating temperatures and are mainly affecting children.

“Cases of chicken pox increase in summer. There have been many cases reported in the past three weeks,” said Dr Minnie Khetrapal, head of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s epidemiology cell as per a report in HT.

Another doctor Tushar Gosavi, a physician in Andheri (East), said he treated six cases of chicken pox in kids in just 15 days. “The body harbours the virus four days before the reddish eruptions show up. The infection spreads easily, especially in schools.”

The hot season also brought with it other spreadable viral infections like herpes and measles.  A consultant physician in Mahim, said he treated 8 herpes and 3 measles cases. “Despite vaccinations, patients catch infections as they pick different variants of the virus.”
