Mumbai paralysed due to heavy rain: national disaster team on alert

A flood like situation has arrived in Mumbai after heavy rain since Monday. The heavy shower has choked the city and more rain is expected over the next 24 hours, predicted Met department. With high tide likely in the evening at 4.30pm, the situation could take a turn for the worse. People were asked not to step out.

The Regional Meteorological Centre of the city on Tuesday predicted intermittent rain with heavy to very heavy showers city and “extremely heavy” rainfall at “one or two places in the city and suburbs”.

Three teams of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have been put on alert. Two additional teams have been shifted from Pune to Mumbai as well.

The civic body’s control room examined the situation. There are also reports that water had entered some city hospitals. Huge water logging was reported in the Hindmata area and King’s Circle, Wadala.

A high tide of 3.32 meters was also headed the city’s way early Tuesday evening making the situation even worse.  The local trains were running late on all three city routes and other transport facilities were also affected.
